In the case of mailing lists, less equals more (BHT’s experience of our GDPR mailing list purge)

As part of Brighton Housing Trust’s response to GDPR, the main BHT mailing list was purged of 1,186 contacts, with just 338 remaining for whom we have written consent, who have a legitimate interest, have a public interest, or who are not individuals.

At the same time the MailChimp mailing list was purged of 577 contacts with 636 remaining.  Having purged this mailing list we have noticed an increase of almost 100% in the engagement rate.
